Nikola Katic’s Rangers loan chances revealed as Ibrox star retains 'focus' despite exit talk

Rangers star Nikola Katic is focused on getting back into the Ibrox first team and has no interest in leaving on loan this summer.

Reports in Croatia and Italy suggested Serie A side Spezia wanted to take the centre back on loan for the season as he steps up his return from a serious knee injury.

But Glasgow Live Sport understands the Croatian defender has dismissed any chance of him leaving on loan and is determined to get himself back involved at Ibrox.

He's yet to play any pre-season games as he continues his recovery from the ACL injury that kept him out all of last season, but Katic has no concerns about his situation.

The centre back didn't play a single minute of the invincible league season and there were suggestions he could leave the club on loan to regain fitness.

As well as a move to Italy, he was linked with clubs in the Scottish Premiership to build his fitness levels and get him back to regular game time but despite interest in him, Katic is fully focused on getting back into Steven Gerrard's plans.

A source close to the player said: "Niko's only focus is to be part of the Rangers squad. Calls from other clubs are not interesting at the moment.

"He is very happy because he has returned to training on the pitch."

The Ibrox side currently have six senior centre backs on their books with Katic joined by Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, Filip Helander, Jack Simpson and George Edmundson.

Gerrard admitted last season that the club wouldn't keep hold of all of them for the new campaign but Katic has no plans to go anywhere this summer.
