Nikola Katic responds to Rangers exit rumours as defender drops hint he's going nowhere

Defiant Nikola Katic insists he's going nowhere this summer despite rumours to the contrary.

The Croatian hasn't played for the Rangers first team since before the pandemic and various reports had emerged claiming the club wanted to get rid.

But Glasgow Live Sport exclusively revealed on Sunday that this was news to Katic, who plans to stay at Ibrox and fight for his place.

He may have played no part in the Premiership title win last season but he clearly sees a place for himself in the years to come.

Katic made his competitive comeback last week, playing 72 minutes in Rangers B's SPFL Trust Trophy win over Dumbarton.

And posting on Instagram, Katic appeared to rubbish the transfer chatter.

The 24-year-old harked back to a 2-0 win over Motherwell in 2019 where he headed in the opener as he posted a celebration snap where Steven Gerrard looks on with a beaming smile.

And he captioned it "many more like this to come," with a winky face emoji that was clearly aimed at the mischievous reports.

Katic has made 59 appearances for Rangers but he faces a fight to win back his spot with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and even Jack Simpson ahead of him in the pecking order.

But it appears for all intents and purposes that he is up for the challenge.
