Nikola Katic reacts to Rangers exit as Hajduk Split loan options spark confusion over centre-back's future

Centre-back Nikola Katic hopes for "great things ahead" at Hajduk Split, as confusion emerges over his loan move.

The Rangers defender has returned to his native Croatia on a temporary deal, with the switch sealed on deadline day.

Katic missed the whole of last season with a serious knee injury, watching on from the sidelines as his team-mates won the Premiership title unbeaten.

With the 24-year-old not in Steven Gerrard 's plans he's been loaned out to one of Croatia's biggest clubs, and the international says he jumped at the chance.

Katic said: "The first impression is really great, I am really pleased that we reached an agreement and that I am becoming part of Hajduk.

"We agreed it quickly, as soon as we found out about mutual interest.

"I was attracted by the fact that Hajduk aim for the highest objectives and that suits with my character.

"I hope we'll achieve good results together.

"I've watched Hajduk, I know that the team has great potential and I hope that great things are ahead of us."

However, there has been confusion in some quarters about the exact terms of the loan deal.

In announcing the deal, Rangers made clear they had the option to recall Katic in January if they choose too.

But Hajduk's statement indicated they will have the option to buy the player for a set fee next summer if he impresses.
