Rangers defender Nikola Katic has joined Hajduk Split on loan.
The centre-back has returned to fitness after a cruel knee ligament injury sidelined him for the entire 2020/21 campaign - but Steven Gerrard wants to get him playing regularly again..
Rangers shot down claims of a permanent departure earlier this summer but a loan back to his homeland became an option as the deadline approached.
And now Katic will head for Split in a bid to get his career back on track, with the Premiership champions retaining the option to recall him in January.
A Rangers statement said: "Nikola Katic has today joined Croatian side Hajduk Split on a season-long loan.
"Rangers will retain a recall option for January on the central defender, who has made 59 appearances and scored six goals in his time at the club thus far.
"Everyone at Rangers wishes Niko well for his loan spell as he works his way back following a difficult year on the sidelines."
