Nikola Katic issues Rangers reminder as loanee steps into leadership role amid Hadjuk Split slump

Rangers loanee Nikola Katic is setting the bar high for his teammates while on loan in Croatia.

Katic has put 14 months of injury agony behind him back in his homeland he has become one of the first names on the Hadjuk Split team sheet.

He hasn't made an appearance for Rangers since March 2020 and was allowed to step up his recovery away from the club.

With Connor Goldson yet to commit to a new deal and the champions watertight defence of last season having struggled to repeat their impenetrable form of last term so far, there is no doubt the Ibrox coaching team will be keeping an eye on Katic's progress.

And he is showing Steven Gerrard he could be a leader in the dressing room when he returns to the Scottish Premiership.

After a run of three games without a win and falling off the pace in the HNL 1 title race, Katic has demanded more from his teammates.

Following the draw with HNK Gorica, Katic says the attackers need to start converting their chances if they are to catch Rijeka.

He told the club website: "We are certainly not satisfied with the outcome.

"We created a lot of chances in the last two games, but we were very bad in that area of the pitch.

"By our chances, we could have earned six points, and only won one point. I think that is devastating for us.

"In terms of approach, mentality, character, guys really do their best, but we need to get the rewards.

"I really can’t pretend to be smart and know how to fix it.

"The only solution is to continue to work hard and wait for all this to return to us in a positive sequence."
