Rangers defender Nikola Katic faces months on the sidelines after a devastating pre-season injury blow.
The centre-back overcame a difficult start to life at Ibrox to become a key part of Steven Gerrard 's side.
He scored a dramatic winner against Celtic in December to give his side a first win at Parkhead in nine years and has become a firm favourite with fans.
But Rangers face being without the Croat for several months after a pre-season injury blow.
A statement said: "Rangers are disappointed to announce that Niko Katic has sustained an injury during preseason training.
"The injury was sustained more than a week ago and will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future.
"Niko is being looked after by our medical team led by Dr Mark Waller."
While the nature of the injury has not been confirmed, it's certain that Katic will miss the Premiership restart scheduled for next month.
The 23-year-old now faces a long road back to fitness as he looks to help his side to a title challenge and win a place in the Croatia squad for Euro 2020.
