Nikola Katic gets Rangers return show of faith as Alan Hutton insists Ibrox career is far from over

Alan Hutton reckons Nikola Katic 's loan move to Hajduk Split is just what the Croatian needs to light a fire under his Rangers career.

The centre-back hadn't played for Steven Gerrard 's team since before the pandemic when he sealed a switch back to his homeland on deadline day.

The 24-year-old has been recovering from a horrific injury and found himself behind Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and Jack Simpson in the pecking order.

He moved back to his homeland with a view to playing regular football again and though Split have an option to buy that becomes active in January, Hutton reckons his best days at Rangers may be yet to come.

He told Football Insider: “I think it’s a perfect move for everyone involved.

“I feel for him because he is only 24. He has had a serious injury and has been out for a long time.

“When he played, he looked like a rock back there.

“He probably understands that he needs playing time, and he’s not going to get it at Rangers.

“If you recall back to the start of the window, Gerrard said he needed to move centre-backs on.

“I thought then he would be one to leave, because of his injury.

“If he can go away and get that game time and come back to Rangers, I think he can come back a stronger and better player and fit right into the team.

“Rangers will be monitoring him closely.”
