Nikola Katic completes Rangers exit as Croatian defender joins Hadjuk Split on loan

Rangers defender Nikola Katic has joined Hadjuk Split on a season long loan deal.

The centre back has just returned from a year out injured and heads back to his homeland to get game time.

He’s made 59 appearances for Rangers and scored six goals, and is expected to return next summer.

Rangers also have the option to recall him in January and Katic has headed to Croatia to get himself back to the level needed.

A short statement from the club said: “Nikola Katic has today joined Croatian side Hajduk Split on a season-long loan.

“Rangers will retain a recall option for January on the central defender, who has made 59 appearances and scored six goals in his time at the club thus far.

“Everyone at Rangers wishes Niko well for his loan spell as he works his way back following a difficult year on the sidelines.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is a big fan of Katic and remains so, but felt it was necessary for him to get more game time.

It had been suggested Katic had been told to leave the club on a permanent basis but Glasgow Live Sport exclusively revealed that wasn’t the case.

However the Ibrox club, Katic and his agent all felt it was vital for him to get a move on loan for more game time.
