The Saudi superteam has done it. Falcons are the IEM Cologne 2026 champions, routing FURIA in three 13-8 maps to complete a miraculous run through the major playoffs. The tournament sees Nikola “NiKo” Kovač finally lift a Major trophy, over 8 years after the disaster that was the ELEAGUE Boston Major. The event also marks the first major trophies for prodigies Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov and Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin, and a sixth title for coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen.

IEM Cologne 2026 presented possibly the most individually stacked Major grand finals in Counter-Strike history, with only the likes of ELEAGUE Boston 2018 and PGL Antwerp 2022 challenging for that title. Disregard the IGLs, and you’d see four star players on each team, all of whom have carried other teams in the past.

Falcons, the very definition of a superteam, already had NiKo and m0NESY amongst their ranks before the 2025 addition of kyousuke bolstered the roster even further. But it wasn’t until the addition of Karrigan that the Russian prodigy has truly lived up to the moniker of “next donk”. Since that addition though, and particularly at Cologne, he has been a man possessed. In fact kyousuke topped the rating charts for the Falcons in the Cologne playoffs, averaging a jaw-dropping 1.29 rating.
Match Recap – Falcons vs. FURIA – IEM Cologne Major 2026
With the grand finals set to be a best-of-five, the veto was rather simplified, without any shenanigans for Karrigan. Bans on Ancient and Overpass, leave us with a map pool of Dust2, Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, and Anubis. Showcasing the longevity of the game, that pool shares four maps with the very first CS:GO major, DreamHack Winter 2013.
- FURIA removed Ancient
- Falcons removed Overpass
- FURIA picked Mirage
- Falcons picked Anubis
- FURIA picked Inferno
- Falcons picked Dust2
- Nuke was left over
Mirage – Falcons showcase their depth of talent – 13-8
A perfectly timed smoke break from NiKo, and back-to-back rounds of impact from Karrigan on B kick started the grand finals with a Falcons lead. Even with rifles out, the Dane had a perfect read of FURIA’s setups. The Brazilians ran into defensive stacks on A repeatedly, and quickly handed over eight rounds in a row to the Falcons.
The tides finally turned in round nine, as a force-bought FURIA burst into A, and put m0NESY under pressure. Falcons decided to contest the site in a 3v5, hoping to reduce the number of weapons FURIA could bring into the subsequent rounds, but found themselves wiped out with all five Ts surviving. That finally gave the Brazilian side enough momentum to save face in the half with 4 rounds.

A B-take from Falcons extended their lead with a pistol win as kyousuke and m0NESY continued to dominate. Back and forth Deagle rounds saw both teams take one, but Falcons established their economy first, hitting matchpoint before FURIA could re-buy. Those rifles did extend play for a couple more rounds, but a triple from NiKo in a 3v5 helped close the map out 13-8.
Anubis – m0NESY magic locks in map two – 13-8
Continuing his run of form from Mirage, m0NESY started things off with a Dualies quad kill in the pistol that Falcons converted into four on the trot. This time, though, FURIA were ready with a response, exploiting Karrigan’s B-site hold to get the ball rolling. That round allowed FalleN and co. to take the lead on Anubis, putting together six rounds of their own. The streak was only broken thanks to a brilliant play from NiKo’s M4A4 that denied the plant for FURIA on A. Still the momentum was with the Brazilian side, and they went into the second half with a 7-5 lead.

Unfortunately, pistols still favored the Falcons side, and a failed retake from FURIA in round 15 further exacerbated their problems as they lost their whole economy to a last-second diffuse attempt. m0NESY was simply sublime, and Falcons were capitalizing on it, quickly extending to double digits. molodoy’s AWP was able to earn FURIA their eighth, but Falcons were simply on a warpath, and 13 were on the board in just two more rounds.
Inferno – Falcons complete the miracle major run – 13-8
FURIA took their first pistol win to start off Inferno, but TeSeS’s five-seven went massive on the A-site defence to rip away the momentum from FURIA for three. A 2v2 in the gun rounds could have brought FalleN’s men back into the lead, but in round seven disaster struck on B. Karrigan, much like his match against Vitality, brought a USP-S to a rifle round, and decimated the T side, this time taking three massive kills to lock in the team’s fourth round.

FURIA may have planned to exploit karrigan’s B-site defence once more, but the Dane combined with kyousuke to keep their opponents out consistently. That freed up NiKo and m0NESY to hold the A-site as well, and Falcons took a massive 8-4 half. Adding to their misery, FURIA found all five kills in the second pistol round, but were unable to convert it into a round win as Falcons’ bomb ticked down to detonation.

Rifles out, FURIA had one final attempt at surviving through this map and making the major final competitive. And the Brazilians took the opportunity, extending their tally to eight with strong site-holds. Unfortunately that unravelled when kyousuke found three opening kills to send FURIA packing. With m0NESY fittingly taking the final kill, the map closed out with yet another 13-8, crowning Falcons as the Major Champions.
NiKo finally lifts the Major trophy at IEM Cologne 2026
Of all the storylines behind the Falcons’ major win, one resonates the strongest: NiKo’s finally fulfilled Major dream. The Bosnian has been competing in Valve’s majors since 2015, and had become infamous for his missing major title. Twice he made the finals of the major, only to fall short of the ultimate goal. The Boston loss to Cloud9 was ofcourse the most painful, and led to the eventual split between him and karrigan. Yet it is with Karrigan by his side that NiKo has finally cracked through.
Even then, the win could have easily been a mere checkmark on his profile handed to him by his teammates. But instead, the Bosnian took initiative in the playoffs series they played, and played some brilliant Counter-Strike on the way to the title. When m0NESY evaporated after two maps of carry performances in the Grand Finals, NiKo kept his level up, and put the final cherry on top for Falcons’ major. Regardless of what Falcons do now, they have given Counter-Strike’s greatest rifler his missing ring at last.
