Nike is set to release a new range of shoes designed specifically for nurses, doctors and other health care professionals.
The shoes have been made to meet the day-to-day physical demands faced by hospital workers, such as nurses who “walk four to five miles and sit for less than an hour over the course of a 12 hour shift.”
The Air Zoom Pulse trainers are designed to be easy to get on and off, simple to clean and have “fit, cushioning and traction systems” to help secure the foot in all conditions.
Key features of the shoes include a laceless design and a spill-protection coating.
“The coated toe box protects against any type of spill,” Nike said in a statement.
“Smooth surfaces present a unique challenge when designing for spills as well, and the shoe's traction pattern solves for this by removing closed cells.”
Product testing and insights from medical workers have come from Portland, Oregon’s OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
All profits from the sale of the shoe will be donated to the hospital and the Doernbecher Freestyle Program, a partnership Nike has run with the hospital since 2004 to give young patients the opportunity to design their own Nike sneaker.
Six versions of the trainers will go on sale on December 7.
