Nike's new Glasgow inspired trainers prove to be a sell-out success

The news that American sportswear stalwarts Nike were launching a new trainer inspired by Glasgow caused untold excitement among sneaker fans in the city.

The NIKE X BSMNT GLASGOW AIR MAX 90's, a collab with London's own streetwear community project team The Basement, feature an orange tongue in tribute to the iconic traffic cone that sits on the Duke of Wellington statue in the city centre.

In the official description, Nike stated the design is paying tribute to Glasgow's "rebellious, joyous, forward-thinking community, continuously evolving and defying expectations".

And since the £140 trainers went on sale yesterday (Saturday 5 October), sneaker fans everywhere have been scrambling to 'cop' a pair - with UK menswear store End Clothing confirming their online sales of the trainers have been flying.

And that comes as no surprise, with the launch announcement on The Basement's Instagram feed earlier this week - via a video of someone climbing the statue outside GoMA - having over 21,000 views.
