Nike LeBron 3 ‘Houston All-Star’ releasing on May 1

Nike will be offering its latest LeBron James retro on May 1 when the previously unreleased LeBron 3 “Houston All-Star” colorway hits stores. This particular design was initially produced in 2006 for friends and family of LeBron to commemorate the NBA All-Star Game in Houston, Texas that season. The university blue, red and white design celebrates the NFL’s Houston Oilers who called H-Town home from 1960 to 1996 before becoming the Tennessee Titans. LeBron’s initials, “LRJ”, can be seen on the toe area in red across a white patent leather bottom. The upper area of the shoe is university blue and it’s accented by red eyelets.

In 2006, when this shoe was first produced by Nike, LeBron was making his second-straight trip to the NBA All-Star Game. He would help rally the East to a 122-120 come-from-behind victory by scoring 29 points and grabbing six rebounds in front of the Houston fans. For his effort, James would become the youngest player to win an All-Star Game MVP. He was joined in the starting lineup that night by Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, Vince Carter and Dwyane Wade who hit the game-winning layup with 16 seconds remaining. Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Yao Ming, Tim Duncan and Tracy McGrady started opposite James for the West. McGrady led all scorers with 36 in front of his Rockets fans in Houston.
