Nik Wallenda to face 10 to 15 mph winds Sunday evening

Nov. 03--Nik Wallenda may face up 10 to 15 mph winds as he attempts a high-wire stunt Sunday evening in a city known for its windy atmosphere.

The National Weather Service expects south winds to blow between 10 to 15 mph. Earlier, officials had predicted wind gusts up to 30 mph, but that forecast was revised down. Sunday's temperatures across Chicagoland registered in the upper 40s, but were expected to drop in the evening hours to lows in the upper 30s.

Wallenda, known for his walks across an Arizona gorge and Niagara Falls, is scheduled to perform his act Sunday evening over the Chicago River. The act will start on the rooftop of Marina City's west tower at a 15-degree angle across the river to the Leo Burnett Building.

Wallenda's camp says he will start at 588 feet on the Marina City building and rise to 671 feet on the Leo Burnett Building.

According to a National Weather Service meteorologist Sunday afternoon, the wind may be between 2 to 5 mph stronger that high up than at ground level. Weather Service officials said they will be monitoring wind conditions leading up to the tight-wire act.

Monday, temperatures are expected to rise to highs in the upper 50s, with wind gust up to 30 mph in the morning hours with a slight chance of showers. Monday night, there is an 80 percent chance of rain with lows in the upper 40s.
