Sonic Racing: CrossWorld fans have something to look forward to this holiday season. The game is getting a festive update, adding a new character to the game. SEGA has announced that NiGHTS, the beloved Nightmaren from the classic NiGHTS into Dreams series, will be joining the roster for free on December 24, 2025.
Unlike the recent updates, NiGHTS won’t cost a dime for the players. No matter which edition of the game you bought, Standard or Digital, you will automatically get the content once it’s released and the game is updated.
It’s SEGA’s way of thanking the community for the immense support. Sonic Racing: Crossworlds really surprised everyone and quickly became one of the top karting games of this year.
What The NiGHTS Content Drop Includes

So what exactly are players getting when this update goes live? Well, the entire update is centered around NiGHTS, and here is what you are getting.
- NiGHTS is a fully playable character, bringing the iconic character into Crossworlds.
- Dream Sleeper, NiGHTS’ signature vehicle, which captures the floaty, dreamlike movement fans love.
- Special emotes and sound effects themed around NiGHTS into Dreams.
For longtime Sega fans, NiGHTS holds a special place in their heart. It’s one of SEGA’s most beloved characters. NiGHTS officially joined the SEGA roster in 1996 with the release of NiGHTS into Dreams, and since then, it’s been part of many crossover titles over the years.
Of course, this is just the start for this game; Crossworlds has been steadily expanding its roster. There are a lot of free characters planned for next year, including Super Monkey Ball’s AiAi and the Banana Cruiser, as well as Tangle and Whisper from Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comics.
Overall, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds’ trajectory is looking pretty good. The next year is going to be big for the game.
Players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2), and PC will all be able to race as NiGHTS by keeping their game updated. It’s a holiday treat that mixes nostalgia with fresh racing fun — and a great way to spread some speed during the festive season.
