Nightmare scenario could threaten Tottenham's European place as Danny Rose clarifies comments

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Wednesday, August 5.

Nightmare scenario could threaten Europa League place

Jose Mourinho’s celebrations with his staff upon having their European place confirmed on the final day of the season demonstrated just how hard Spurs had to work to finish in the top six.

But, all is not yet confirmed, and there is still a nightmare scenario that could well see Spurs having to forfeit their place in the Europa League next season.

A new rule suggests that if a home team’s country restricts travel from the country of the visiting team after the draw has been made, then the home team must forfeit the game.

That could seriously affect Mourinho’s side, who will have to go through two rounds of qualifying just to get the group stages of the competition.

Alasdair Gold's Spurs season debrief and the transfer window

The transfer status of ever Spurs player

It’s set to be a big summer for Spurs as Jose Mourinho gets to work on putting his stamp on his side.

With the transfer window beginning to heat up across Europe, the Portuguese will be eager to get involved and try to fix his unbalanced squad.

As usual for Spurs though, their business is likely to be dictated by which players leave the club this summer.

With that in mind, Alasdair Gold has taken a look at the entire squad, and picked out who should be kept and who might be on their way.

Rose clarifies ‘can’t wait to see the back of football’ comment

Danny Rose has looked to clarify what he meant when he said he “can’t wait to see the back of football” – and his reiterated that he meant it.

The Spurs left-back made the comments last year after being racially abused while on England duty in Montenegro.

"Yeah, I meant it because it's true. Fans and non-playing football people may just think we just turn up Monday to Friday, train for two hours, go home and you get the biggest reward ever on a Saturday, but football isn't as hunky-dory as people may think," he said on the Second Captains podcast.

"I am only speaking about my experiences and how I feel. I stand by what I said 100 per cent. If nobody can see what I am talking about, it's right there.”
