A nightclub has banned a person for life after staff reviewed CCTV footage from last weekend.

Police confirmed to the ECHO they are investigation reports that a 20-year-old woman had her drink spiked at the Cornerhouse on Saturday, October 23.

The woman collapsed while at the bar and was taken to hospital, she has since been discharged.

After checking CCTV, workers at the Corner House believe they spotted the person responsible and kicked them out.

The club then said the suspect will be banned from the premises for life.

Posting to the venues Facebook page, a spokesperson for the Cornerhouse said: "We are not going to shy away from the fact that a number of people approached us on Saturday night with concerns their drink had been tampered with.

"Having studied CCTV closely we believe we have identified the person responsible and rest assured they will not be entering [Corner house] CH again ever.

"Please remember any unattended drink will be collected by our glass collectors, this is for your safety and please ask for a manager if you have any issues with this.

Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst, head of Widnes LPU, said: "I understand the concern this incident is likely to cause and I would like reassure residents that we are doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

"We take all reports seriously and I would encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim or witness to spiking, in any form, to contact us on 101 or report it via our website."

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and officers are liaising with the victim.

Anyone with any information in relation which may aid the investigation is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1115861.

Staff also urged people to be vigilant and report any concerns as soon as possible.

They shared a poster on social media with information on how to help someone who has been spiked, or what to do if you suspect someone has been spiked.

It reads: "Tell a member of staff, bar manager, bouncer. Stay with them and keep them talking. Call and ambulance if their condition deteriorates. Do not let them go home alone. Do not let them leave the venue with someone they don't know. Try and prevent them drinking more alcohol."

They also suggested that if a drink is foggy, has excessive bubbles, sinking ice or changing colour, that is may have been spiked.
