People who work nights drive taxis, stock shelves, patrol streets, manage hospitals, put out fires, and do so much more to ensure that our everyday lives are as safe and smooth as possible.
However, their schedule often clashes with that of the outside world—something that can become especially challenging when trying to get enough rest.
For Reddit user SpecialShake6702, the noise from their neighbors’ young children playing outside every day made it impossible to sleep. So, they decided to take matters into their own hands.

A 2023 study commissioned by UNI Global Union surveyed over 2,500 cleaners in 32 countries across 6 continents and discovered that nearly 70% of night staff and over half of early morning and evening cleaners say they’re not getting enough sleep.
However, according to the research, evening and night-shift workers face higher rates of conflict between their work schedules and their social and family lives in a broader sense, too. Testimonies from cleaners emphasized the negative impact on their relationships with their children and partners.
So, the Redditor’s desire for quality rest is more than understandable. While that doesn’t mean that the entire neighborhood should adapt to their time zone, kids creating havoc at 7 AM does sound tiring—even for those with regular schedules.
But that’s sometimes easier said than done. According to another study, 42% of Americans say they’ve been involved in a dispute with their neighbors. They are usually triggered by:
- Noise (48% of all disputes);
- Pets and animals (29%);
- Children’s behavior (21%).
Seems like our Reddit may have gotten a combo.
Nearly half (49%) of respondents said they chose a direct approach and discussed the issue with their neighbor, while more than one in four (27%) say they’ve called the police, which can sometimes be inefficient, especially if no crime is involved. The person behind this post chose petty option C.
