Have you ever read a summary and just by reading it, you knew you were gonna love the book? Well, this happened to me. I went into Night Owls with high expectations, and let me tell you, it didn’t let me down!
Night Owls was such a fast and quick read that I couldn’t put it down, I literally took it to Prom with me. This book was funny at the right times and emotional at the times needed, with characters that were so real, so relatable, that you couldn’t help but fell in love with them. The plot was unique and the way they describe the art was so on point, the whole book just made me smile.
The story begins with our protagonist, Beatrix (aka Bex) being set up by a Professor to get permission to draw the dissected bodies in her lab – and yes, you did read that right, this girl wants to draw dead open bodies, but back to the point… So she then gets on the Night Owl to go home and from then on, her world is turned upside down.
Meeting the authentic, mysterious and quite handsome Jack, who may or may not be the infamous golden graffiti artist that is vandalising the city at night, is the highlight of her night but also the same thing that sends her world spiralling. Neither of them can keep away from each other and have an instant attraction to each other.
Jack was funny, sarcastic and swoony, while Bex was downright sassy. The two had me on the edge of my seat with the sexual tension between them, but also had me rooting for both of them to conquer their demons and end up together.
I never thought a book could make me emotional over graffiti or words like BEGIN, FLY, BELONG, JUMP, TRUST, BLOOM, CELEBRATE, ENDURE, RISE, and LOVE, but it did, and once you read this book you will understand why. You may also want to get an anatomical heart-shaped necklace once you read the book, just a warning.
In the end, this book was just amazing, and so far my favourite read of the year, I can’t recommend it enough. Congrats Jenn Bennett on writing a book that absolutely blew my mind!
