Night noise warning at Pitlochry Railway Station

Residents living near the rail tracks between Perth and Inverness are being told to expect disturbances throughout the night as Network Rail undertakes improvement works.

Network Rail will be removing timber platforms at Pitlochry Railway Station as well as other works, beginning tonight (Friday, March 22) for four days.

This will see the overnight closure of a the pedestrian underpass between Ferry Road car park and Station Lane in the Highland Perthshire town until March 26 and between 10pm and 6am on April 8.

Passengers wanting to travel on the Highland Mainline this weekend will also see a bus replacement service.

Network Rail wrote to residents in Pitlochry and said: “As part of the Scottish Government’s ongoing investment in the Highland Mainline, Network Rail and our contractors will be undertaking the completion of engineering works between Perth and Inverness [between] midnight on Friday, March 22 and 5.30am on Tuesday, March 26 [with] 24 hour working.

“The upgrades we are delivering to both track and signalling on the Highland Mainline are vital to delivering more and faster trains and providing greater choice for customers.

“We will be working around-the-clock to complete this complex programme as quickly as possible and, while we understand the inconvenience this will cause to some passengers and residents, such a huge engineering project cannot be delivered safely and efficiently without the closure of the line.

“We are encouraging passengers to leave extra time for travel, and plan journeys in advance.”

A spokesperson for ScotRail said passengers should visit its website www.scotrail.co.uk/plan-your-journey/engineering-works before travelling to find out about the bus replacement services.
