Night filming for Peaky Blinders spotted outside St George's Hall

Peaky Blinders production crews have been setting up outside St George's Hall since early this evening for a spot of night filming.

Since around 6pm, props including umbrellas on wooden stands and classic cars have been set up outside the city's great neoclassical building.

Production crews have been busy placing lighting rigs and dressing the scene for tonight's shoot of the hit BBC drama that follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family for a sixth series.

Although the drama is set in Birmingham in the aftermath of World War One, Liverpool is regularly called upon to provide the backdrop for the show.

It's been filmed in Liverpool since 2012 at a variety of locations including the Welsh Streets, the Tobacco warehouse at Stanley Dock, the State Ballroom on Dale Street and in Port Sunlight.

ECHO photographer Colin Lane returned to the set this evening to take in the full atmosphere of tonight's filming.

With the classic cars, lighting and period costumes, St George's Hall adds the final touch of glamour to scene.

Actors dressed as police and the weird umbrella stands in place, being transported back to the period was only jarred by the actor's facemasks and occasional mobile phone on set.

It's believed the filming will go on until the early hours of the morning.
