Nigerian youth international helps solve Whitburn goalkeeping crisis

A Nigerian youth international, who appeared for his country in the 2019 Under-17 World Cup, helped solve Whitburn's goalkeeping crisis by featuring in two games this week as a trialist.

Joseph Oluwabusola, 18, played in the Burnie's pre-season friendlies against Camelon on Saturday and their 3-1 loss to Linlithgow Rose last night after first-choice keeper Daniel Potts picked up a slight ankle injury. Potts was able to play the second half of the clash against Linlithgow.

Oluwabusola, previously with English Championship side Bournemouth, agreed to help out Burnie boss Jamie Sandilands for the two fixtures while the youngster continues his search for a club that has included training stints with SPFL outfits.

The teenager appeared once for the Nigerians in the under-17 World Cup two years ago, featuring in a 2-1 group stage defeat to Australia.

Sandilands said: "I want to say a huge thanks to Joe for helping us out for these two games. He's up training with Queen's Park and Queen of the South just now, having just been released from Bournemouth.

"He's come along and helped us out when we were needing a keeper and he's been great to be around these last two games.

"He's got a great grounding in the game and we're grateful he agreed to help us out. We wish him all the best in his career."
