Nigerian who bought Ecstasy pills worth Rs 1.8 crore from Germany held in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: In one of the biggest seizures of MDMA drugs, commonly known as Ecstasy pills, a parcel from Germany containing 2.6kg of the banned substance worth Rs 1.8 crore was unearthed at the Foreign Post Office (FPO) in Bengaluru.

A Nigerian, who was scheduled to collect the parcel, which he is suspected to have ordered through the darkweb, was apprehended by Bengaluru Customs.

Sources said the parcel carrying Ecstasy pills in pink, blue and yellow colours reached the FPO in Chamarajpet on Thursday after being shipped from an unknown address in Germany. The customs team scanned the parcel and spotted something amiss in its base. They then cut open the brown carton box to unearth the pills pasted at the bottom. A lab test ascertained the pills as the psychoactive recreational drug.

The parcel was sent for delivery to Bagalur post office. “The postman contacted the receiver on Saturday. Though he said he would come to Bagalur, he kept dodging us by changing the location. Finally, after a 48-hour wait, the suspect said he would be coming to a spot in Bileshivale,” an officer said.

The suspect came in a car with his accomplice and the postman gave a dummy parcel. Officials chased them and managed to nab one suspect. His accomplice escaped into a nearby forest.

The suspect was identified as a 29-year-old Nigerian residing in Hennur. He has been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is in judicial custody now.
