Nigerian man held with cocaine in Maharashtra's Thane

THANE: A Nigerian man, suspected of being a peddler, was arrested for carrying cocaine worth Rs 6.5 lakh by the Crime Branch Unit-5 in Thane, ahead of the New Year eve, said police officials.

Senior inspector Vikas Ghodake of Thane crime branch Unit- 5 said he was tipped off about the Nigerian from Mira Road trying to arrive in the city along with the contraband targeting New Year eve party revellers in the city.

“He was arrested with16 grams of cocaine following leads from three other Nigerian nationals who were arrested earlier. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Wagle Estate police station,” Ghodake said.

It may be noted that the Thane police was on the alert for tracking drug peddlers considering the possibility of sale of the contraband in the city and suburbs ahead of the New Year and Christmas parties.
