Nigeria's 'coconut head generation': Documentary debunks clichés surrounding youth

PERSPECTIVE © FRANCE 24

In Nigeria, a phrase is said to be used by some older people to describe the younger cohort. They call them the "coconut head generation": an insult meaning lazy and apathetic. Our guest, filmmaker Alain Kassanda, has taken that name for his documentary, which goes a long way to show quite the opposite: how many young Nigerians are politically involved and fighting for more for their country. It focuses on the lives of students at the country's oldest university, in Ibadan. Alain joined us for Perspective, along with the film's visual director, Obayomi Anthony Ayodele.
