Nigeria release Alex Iwobi statement after Everton winger's coronavirus results come back

Nigeria have confirmed Alex Iwobi will face Lesotho today after testing negative for coronavirus.

Everton winger Iwobi reportedly tested positive after joining up with the Super Eagles for international duty and missed the victory over Benin in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying at the weekend.

A statement from Nigeria said: "Update: Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi has tested negative after further COVID-19 tests were conducted."

A further release added: "Update: Confederation of African Football clears Alex Iwobi to play today's game against Lesotho."

Nigeria have already qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and top their group ahead of Benin, Sierra Leone and Lesotho.

The next edition of the competition will take place in January 2022.

Iwobi has made 31 appearances for Everton under Carlo Ancelotti this season, scoring twice.

The 24-year-old has 44 international caps for Nigeria.
