Nigella Lawson’s odd microwave pronunciation has been nominated for a Bafta

Nigella Lawson's bizarre pronunciation of 'microwave' could win a Bafta for the most memorable moment on TV.

The TV chef sent the internet into meltdown in 2020 when she mentioned the kitchen appliance on her BBC cookery show Cook Eat Repeat.

The clip, which aired on 7 December, saw the 61-year-old explain how she makes a brown butter colcannon - vegetable-filled mashed potato.

After mashing her potatoes, she went on to tell viewers the next step which involved using the microwave.

She explained: "I still need a bit of milk - full fat - which I've warmed in the meecro-wah-vay."

But viewers went into a frenzy after they heard how she said the word.

Fans rushed to Twitter to comment on it (BBC WS)

Nigella later responded to the outrage explaining that she does in fact know how to correctly say microwave and that it's a family joke.

Now, the moment has made the shortlist of the Bafta's Must-See Moment Award.

Nigella faces stiff competition from Diversity for their BLM-inspired Britain's Got Talent routine, as well as Bridgerton for its Lady Whistledown reveal, the killing of Chantelle on EastEnders, the appearance of Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian and the response to a Boris Johnson pandemic press conference on Gogglebox.

The winner will be decided by a public vote and announced during the ceremony on 6 June.

Fans who were stunned by the news were quick to have their say online, as one person said: "Nigella Lawson saying Microwave weird has been nominated for a BAFTA. Let that sink in," while someone else put: "If Nigella Lawson doesn't win a BAFTA for saying microwave then what's the point of anything?"
