Nigella Lawson praises 'heavenly' dessert at bakery short drive from Liverpool

A bakery just a short drive away from Liverpool was recently praised by Nigella Lawson.

The 61-year-old TV chef shared a post to her 2.6 million followers on Instagram saying the Lemon Meringue pie served by The Bear Bakery in Chester was "heavenly."

She said it seemed only right and proper to eat a Chester Pudding during her visit to the city to see a theatre performance.

The post read: "A lemon meringue tart with an extra layer of almonds - which Jane Grigson, in her Fruit book, suggests might be *the* original Lemon Meringue Pie, travelling from Chester to America as people set out for the New World on ships leaving from nearby Liverpool.

"I’m so grateful to Frankie from @thebearbakery for making me this especially. It’s heavenly!"

The family-owned artisan bakery serves everything from slow fermented breads and bakes to vegan-friendly cinnamon buns and Nigella isn't the only one to sing the bakery's praises.

Famous chef, Sabrina Ghayour-Lynn Chef commented: "That looks like HEAVEN."

While another customer who was equally excited said: "Stop this outrageousness!"

A third added: "The extra layer of almonds can only be a good thing to my mind."

Others commented suggesting that visitors should try the bakery's croissants or their sourdough loaves.

The bakery opens from 10am - 5pm from Tuesday - Fridays and 10am -1pm on Saturdays.
