Nigel Winterburn delivers huge back-handed compliment to Spurs that the Arsenal fans will love

Tottenham finished fourth an reached the final of the Champions League last season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, claimed fifth and a place in the Europa League final.

Spurs failed to claim the one piece of silverware their north London rivals have yet to win, as they lost out to Liverpool in the Madrid showpiece at the start of June.

And it is that failure that has Arsenal fans and former players like clinging on to.

Former Gunners defender Nigel Winterburn praised Spurs for the way they play and their performances in recent years, but believes the lack of silverware continues to keep them in the Gunners shadow.

Speaking to sportingbet.com, Winterburn said: "Tottenham have finished consistently above Arsenal over the past few seasons and they are a better team but at the end of the day, they still have no silverware to show for it!

"Tottenham have a very strong team, they actually remind me of Arsenal teams in the past, they look very well organised, they’ve got players with individual flair.

Mauricio Pochettino: My original plan did not work against Aston Villa

"They now have the new stadium and are in a position where they are starting to spend some money. They have one of the best managers in the world in [Mauricio] Pochettino and at the moment, Arsenal have work to do to if they are to leapfrog back over them.

"The saving grace for Arsenal fans is that they still haven’t won that elusive trophy, and I think at the moment, that’s what we’re hanging onto."
