Nigel Pearson sends clear Bristol City message ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Bristol City head coach Nigel Pearson has called for a response from his players ahead of their Nottingham Forest encounter on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Heading into the game at Ashton Gate, the Robins are on a club record run of 16 home matches without a win.

Last time out, they were beaten 2-0 by high-flying Bournemouth.

Bristol had just 26.3% possession against top-of-the-table Bournemouth, and were only successful in 56% of their passes.

To avoid the same mistake from occurring again during Forest's visit, Pearson wants his players to be more efficient on the ball.

"I want us to control possession a lot better because we didn't hit the levels we are capable of against Bournemouth," the Nottingham-born boss wrote in his programme notes.

"We were disjointed and beaten by a very good side on the day. We need to compete much better against Nottingham Forest.

"I don't think we can have too many complaints because we come into this new fixture after playing against the best side we have faced so far this season. It's difficult to judge our performance from Saturday because it was like playing against a Premier League team, but now we need a response."

With some injuries along the way, those players stepping in have also been sent a message by Pearson.

"Players might find themselves in a position where they are required to play so it's not about bemoaning the circumstances, it's about new opportunities and expecting the players who come in to go out there and perform," he concluded.
