Nigel Pearson breaks his silence after Bristol City appointment with message for Robins fans

New Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has spoken of his delight after being appointed as the successor to Dean Holden at Ashton Gate.

The 57-year-old has been appointed as the new City boss, with the former Leicester City and Watford manager signing a deal with the Robins until the end of the season.

Pearson, who guided Leicester City to the Championship title in the 2013-14 season, will work with the current assistant head coaches Keith Downing and Paul Simpson at City.

This is Pearson's first job in management since leaving Watford in July, with the Hornets sacking the 57-year-old as they battled to avoid relegation from the Premier League, which they ultimately failed to do.

Pearson has plenty of managerial experience from several caretaker spells before permanent stints at Southampton, Leicester (twice), Hull City, Derby County, and Watford in England, while he has also had a spell in Belgium with OH Leuven.

And Pearson has taken to social media to thank Robins fans after being appointed as Dean Holden's successor.

He posted: "Good evening, all. Thank you for the kind messages and warm welcome.

"I'm delighted to be back in management and working for @BristolCity, a proud, progressive football club.

"I will give my all to improve our fortunes. Cheers, Nige. #BristolCity.

Pearson will be in attendance at Bristol City's Championship clash with Middlesbrough tomorrow, before taking charge officially on Wednesday ahead of the trip to face Swansea City.

The new Robins boss is due to face the media for the first time as Bristol City manager on Wednesday.
