Nigel Owens 'apologises' to Rugby World Cup TV viewers after unfortunate moment leaves commentators in stitches

Nigel Owens has apologised to fans after his face literally filled TV screens across the globe during an unfortunate coming together with a cameraman in the Tonga v USA game.

Commentators were left in stitches after the incident when the cameraman decided to stand directly behind Owen's shoulder as Tonga took a kick at goal.

Moments later, with the kick completed, Owens turned to run back to the halfway line unaware of what was right next to him.

The two inevitably collided, with Owens' head bumping the camera lens as his shocked face filled the entire screen.

The moment has been shared widely on social media by the official Rugby World Cup account, and the Welsh referee was quick to see the funny side.

He posted: "May I sincerely apologise for the interference on your TV set this morning. Please do not adjust your TV, it was a one off."

Owens is likely to be put in charge of at least one knockout tie, after being chosen to referee the final four years ago.
