Nigel Havers says BBC won’t screen 80s sitcom Don’t Wait Up as it is 'too posh'

Nigel Havers says BBC bosses won’t screen his 80s sitcom Don’t Wait Up because it’s “too posh”.

But the actor, 68, says the show, which ran for six series from 1983 would help break the “doom and gloom” of lockdown TV.

“That would cheer people up,” he said. “They don’t repeat it because they think it’s too posh.”

Written by George Layton, the hit show ran for six years and featured Tony Britton and Dinah Sheridan within the cast.

Nigel played newly single GP Tom Latimer, whose father Toby (Tony Britton), a Harley St consultant, moves in after a marriage split.

But he told Radio Times: “The BBC has been nothing but doom and gloom. The public need support and optimism.”

Sadly, the sitcom isn't available on BBC iPlayer either.

Although the actor claims that the BBC won't re-air his classic sitcom, the prominent television star is currently presenting The Bidding Room.

The hit BBC show is an amalgamation of Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Show and Dragon's Den.

It is also a popular daytime television series that sees a collection of buyers battle for the highest bid on rare items.

As for the entertainment element of the bidding show, the members of the public have already had their antiques valued before the bidding commences and the dealers throw their cash at the items.
