Ukip leader Nigel Farage’s turn on the Gogglebox sofa attracted just over 2 million viewers to Channel 4 on Monday night.
Steph and Dom meet Nigel Farage averaged 2.1 million viewers and a 11.6% audience share from 10pm.
The Gogglebox special edition teamed publicity juggernaut Farage with the show’s “posh” participants, discussing everything from how to pronounce Farage (it’s garage, pronounced with the southern English long ‘ah’), surviving cancer and giving up his job in the City to move into politics – all accompanied by lashings of alcohol.
The show’s 10pm competition included the news on BBC1 (4.4 million/24.2%) and ITV (1.9 million/10.6%), BBC2’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks (0.9 million/5%) and Channel 5’s repeat of Greatest Christmas TV Moments (0.4 million/4.7%).
Gogglebox returned to Channel 4 in March this year with 2.7 million viewers, its biggest audience at the time. The show averages 2.9 million for its most recent series, according to Broadcast magazine.
