Nigel Farage's message about 'humiliated' Britain on the first stop of March to Leave in Nottinghamshire

MEP Nigel Farage launched an attack on the Prime Minister from the top of his battle bus in Linby as residents cheered and booed his speech.

This is the former UKIP leader's first outing since announcing he would be taking over as leader of the newly established Brexit Party.

Mr Farage was one of the most prominent campaigners for Britain to leave the European Union and his speech reflected his frustration at the delays in leaving with or without a deal.

This week, the EU agreed to extend the Brexit deadline to May 22 if a deal is approved by MPs next week.

If not, and no alternative plan is in place, then the UK is set to leave on April 12.

Mr Farge , which aims to finish in London on March 29 with a rally in Parliament Square.

The march, which started at the Horse and Groom pub, in Main Street, Linby is supposed to be a symbol for millions of Brexiteers across the county who want to leave the EU.

Around 200 people turned up to see him, with some cheering and applauding his speech while others booed.

Talking from the top of his battle bus, Mr Farage said: "I have been in Brussels watching a British Prime Minister reducing our nation. In the eyes of the world it is a state of humiliation.

"But worse than that the gap that has opened up between the people and politicians is such that despite everything we were told in the referendum, everything we were told in the general election manifestos, every promise that was made when 498 MPs voted for Article 50 that says we leave on March 29 with or without a deal.

"The Prime Minister signalled that we would not be leaving this Friday.

"Our message is very clear - if they think they can walk all over us we are going to march back and say 'no you can't.'

"We will not give in. We will not roll over. We will fight and we know that we will get Brexit whether it is this Friday or at a later date.

"Whatever battles we have to face, we are united. We are going to win this great historic battle. And we will become again a self-governing, independent, normal country. Not run by Juncker and the gang in Brussels. We will govern ourselves."
