Nigel Farage's Brexit night party set to flop as he's unable to deliver promises

Revellers at Nigel Farage’s Brexit night celebration are in for a disappointment after the Brexit Party leader was unable to deliver on a string of flashy pledges he made for the bash.

Farage and Brexit Party chair Richard Tice promised “fireworks, bands and comedians” at the bash, to be held tomorrow night on Westminster’s Parliament Square.

But the Mirror can reveal organisers have been unable to deliver on any of these promises.

And Farage and Tice have warned revellers that booze will be banned.

Both fireworks and live music are prohibited under the official permit for events on the square.

And there are no comedians in the announced line-up of ‘entertainment’ at the event.

Instead Brexiteers will be treated to speeches from Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin, radio host Julia Hartley-Brewer, Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry and Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe.

Liberal Democrat Brexit Spokesperson Alistair Carmichael said: “If ever you needed proof that Farage and his cronies couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery, here it is.”

“Like the 2016 referendum, they promised everything under the sun for their crude party. But just like Brexit, people have been left with nothing more than broken promises.

“Sadly, this is just typical of what we have come to expect with Brexit. All the more reason for Liberal Democrats do everything in our power to hold this government to account.”

When the Brexit Celebration was announced last month, it was reported the organisers wanted to make it ticket-only - with a “small charge” going towards the estimated £100,000 cost.

But organisers are banned from closing off the square and charging for entry.

Instead, they wrote to supporters, asking them to make a “minimum recommended donation” of £10 each.

Funds raised will go to Leave Means Leave, the pro-Brexit campaign group under whose banner the event is being run.

An email to supporters read: “We would also like to ask everyone come in good voice to sing some patriotic songs and bring along as many Union flags as they can, to wave in a patriotic display of pride.”

Farage and Tice added that it would not be “advisable” to bring booze to the bash, because Westminster is a “controlled drinking zone”.

Brexiteers were already reeling from their failed bid to arrange for Big Ben to bong at the stroke of 11pm, when Britain will officially leave the EU.

A crowdfunding campaign raised £272,646 towards the estimated £500,000 cost of ringing the bell, which is disabled for refurbishment.

But Commons authorities refused permission to complete the work for the one-off event.

Organisers closed the fund on Monday, announcing the cash would be donated to military veterans charity Help for Heroes.

Farage’s celebration was granted permission to run from 9pm to 11.30pm tomorrow.

But the conditions of the standard permit to hire Parliament Square ban organisers from setting off fireworks or making the event ticketed.

Some barriers are allowed around the grass – which must be covered.

But public access must be maintained around the path of the Square.

The Square does not have a live music licence, so bands or other musical performers are out of the question.

Boris Johnson this month announced plans for Union flags to be flown around Westminster on Brexit night, along with a light show on Downing Street.

A clock will be projected on the walls of Number 10, counting down to 11pm.

Earlier in the day, the PM will hold a cabinet meeting in the North of England, before returning to Downing Street to deliver a “special address.”
