Nigel Farage protest: Brexiteers and Remainers clash as man accused of 'bringing race into it'

Leavers and Remainers have clashed outside a school where Nigel Farage is set to appear.

The Brexit Party leader is visiting Backwell School, a secondary academy on Station Road, to take part in BBC Radio 4's Any Questions panel show this evening (October 4).

Around 20 anti-Farage demonstrators are protesting outside the school gates, while two Brexiteers have also put their points across.

Footage captured by Bristol Live shows the two camps have engaged in a heated war of words.

One man likened the Remainers' "socialism" to communism, which he says has been responsible for 100 million deaths.

A Remainer responded by saying Sweden and Norway have socialist models, to which the man's replied: "We are Anglo-Saxon. They are not."

The protester hit back: "Are you bringing race into it? Well done for using the word 'anglo-saxon' in a sentence where you are supporting the Brexit Party."

His response was: "It's nothing to do with race. You are distorting what I am saying."

BREXITEER NICKY KNIGHT EXPLAINS WHY SHE HAS TURNED UP

Brexiteer Nicky Knight told the anti-Farage campaigners: "We want a sovereign nation. The EU are taking over."

She said she was "non-party political", but was asked why she was carrying a Brexit Party sign.

Ms Knight pointed out she had a Boris Johnson badge too, to which a Remainer said she was "doubly party political".

DEMONSTRATORS CLASH OUTSIDE BACKWELL SCHOOL

The 47-minute broadcast is set to start at 8.02pm, but doors open to the public at 6.30pm and the protesters gather at the gates of the school from around 5.30pm.
