Nigel Farage kicked out of TRIC Awards ceremony as host booed while collecting gong

Nigel Farage stunned the TRIC Awards audience after it was announced he'd won the best news presenter but, despite the victory, the politician-turned-presenter was kicked out of the ceremony.

The former Brexit campaigner and UKIP leader beat TalkTV's Piers Morgan and fellow GB News breakfast host Eamonn Holmes to win the coveted award.

Before the awards ceremony got under way, the TRIC Awards main sponsors kicked Nigel out of the drinks reception area.

Nigel kicked off his night by sharing a video on Twitter live from the red carpet.

He said: "Here I am at the TRIC Awards. Now I never thought I'd be invited to an event like this. Many of the people here, when they interviewed me, treated me like like a war criminal so I'm not sure I'm going to be the most popular person in the room but fingers crossed we win."

He subsequently tweeted: "Not off to a good start here at the TRIC Awards as the main sponsor made me leave the drinks reception area."

The award-winning presenter later received an apology and told his Twitter followers: "Well knock me down... The main sponsor here has apologised to me, which I have fully accepted."

Nigel went on to be presented with the award for best presenter, which is decided by a public vote, but was booed while giving his acceptance speech.

Addressing the negative reaction to his win, Nigel later said on GB News: "I am delighted, thrilled as a new boy in television to win this award...of course my moment came to get up and give a speech and I thought, 'Well I'm going to be as magnanimous in victory as I possibly can and I thanked all those who voted for me, especially those who live outside the M25."

Tweeting a clip from his show, Nigel wrote: "They screamed, they shouted and they heckled me. Gosh, I enjoyed it!"

Nigel's GB News 7pm show is one of the most popular evening shows among broadcasters and has consistently beaten Piers Morgan for viewers on TalkTV.
