Nigel Farage earns £270k in just 12 hours for promoting gold bullion

Reform UK Nigel Farage has declared his largest single payment to date for work outside his parliamentary duties, receiving £270,000 for promoting gold bullion.

Mr Farage formally registered the sum from Direct Bullion in his latest financial interests declaration.

The official register says that the £270,000 was for an estimated “up to four hours work per month over the course of a three-month period”.

Mr Farage, who is a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion, has previously registered several other payments from the company.

His latest entry also includes £18,402, which he earned for an estimated six hours presenting on GB News.

Meanwhile, the Reform UK leader continues to face questions about a £5 million gift he received from Thailand-based crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.

The Reform leader has said that he did not need to declare the gift, which he was given before he announced he would stand for Parliament in 2024, because it was not related to politics.

The Clacton MP has given various explanations for the gift, including that it was to pay for his personal security, and that it was a “reward” for campaigning for Brexit throughout his political career.

In a recent round of interviews, Mr Farage insisted the gift was a “wholly private matter”, and refused to say if he had spent any of it on security, or on anything else.

Parliament’s standards commissioner is investigating whether Mr Farage should have registered the gift.

If the investigation finds that he committed a serious breach of parliament’s rules, he could be suspended from the Commons.

Any suspension of 10 days or more could trigger a recall petition, which could potentially see him forced to fight for his seat in Clacton again.

A Reform UK spokesperson said at the time that the probe was launched: “Mr Farage’s office is in communications with the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.

“He has always been clear that this was a personal, unconditional gift and no rules were broken.

“We look forward to this being put to bed once and for all.”

A spokesperson for Mr Farage said on Tuesday: “As has previously been reported and declared, Nigel Farage is a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion.”
