Nigel Farage criticised for speculating about Ann Widdecombe death

  • Nigel Farage has faced criticism for speculating about the death of Ann Widdecombe, an ex-Reform UK spokeswoman, who was found dead at her home in Haytor on Thursday.
  • A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in Rotherham on Saturday in connection with Miss Widdecombe's death.
  • Mr Farage told reporters he believed the attack was “premeditated murder” and mentioned a car appearing on her drive the day before her body was discovered.
  • Former Conservative MP Harvey Proctor, an anonymous Labour minister, and former justice secretary David Gauke condemned Mr Farage's comments, urging against public speculation during a police investigation.
  • Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman of Devon and Cornwall Police also appealed to the public to avoid speculation, stating it is unhelpful to the investigation and distressing for the family.
