Nigel Farage announces he is quitting politics for good - and won't be back

Nigel Farage has announced he is quitting politics - and will not be back.

The former leader of UKIP and the Brexit Party told the Telegraph that he is resigning as leader of the Reform Party and quitting politics after three decades.

He said: "There is no going back - Brexit is done. That won't be reversed. I know I’ve come back once or twice when people thought I’d gone, but this is it. It’s done. It’s over.”

The 57-year-old Londoner is one of the most high-profile politicians of his generation and his campaigning played a vital role in the eventual decision to grant a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union.

He served as an MEP from 1999 to 2020, and led UKIP twice, from 2006 to 2009 and from 2010 to 2016.

He told the Telegraph it had been an 'honour' to play an important role in the Brexit campaign.

According to the Times, he began his career in the City as a trader on the London Metal Exchange in 1982.

He quit the Conservative Party in 1992 after Maastricht treaty was signed in a move that paved the way for greater EU integration.
