Nigel Farage admits 'Brexit has failed' as he puts blame on Tory 'mismanagement'

Former Brexit front man Nigel Farage has said the move to leave the EU has 'failed' according to his standards. Speaking to BBC Newsnight's Victoria Derbyshire, GB News presenter said he believed the UK has not 'benefitted from Brexit' economically and blamed UK politicians for not reaping the 'benefits'.

Mr Farage had been the face of Brexit during the EU referendum, leading the UK Independence Party (UKIP) and later Reform UK in a bid for the UK to leave the European Union in a 'hard' Brexit. In June 2016, nearly 30 million people voted in a referendum on whether the UK should leave the European Union and, in a vote of 52 percent to 48 percent, it was decided the UK would leave.

The former Member of European Parliament campaigned on the grounds of 'taking back control' from the EU commission - but has now said UK politicians are 'as useless as' their EU counterparts.

While Mr Farage admitted to Victoria his "didn't think for a moment" the UK would have been economically better off in the EU than out of it, he conceded: "What I do think is we haven't actually benefitted from Brexit economically, where we could have done.

"I mean, what Brexit's proved, I'm afraid, is that our politicians are about as useless as the commission in Brussels were. We've mismanaged this totally.

"And if you look at simple things - simple things such as turnovers, such as corporation tax - we are looking at driving business away from our country. Arguably, now we're back in control, we're regulating our own businesses even more than they were as EU members."

Mr Farage then admitted "Brexit has failed". He continued: "Frankly, we've not delivered on borders, we've not delivered on Brexit, the Tories have let us down very, very badly."
