NIFRS pay tribute to “good friend and colleague” who died after a short illness

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service have paid their respects to a colleague who passed away on Monday morning.

Andy McLucas, who worked as a fireman for the Eastern Area Command, died after a short illness on July 12.

Described as a “good friend and colleague”, the NIFRS East shared a Facebook post to pay tribute to Andy and tell of how he will be deeply missed.

It said: “Personnel from Eastern Area Command are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of their good friend and colleague Andy McLucas from Red Watch Westland who passed away this morning after a short illness.

“Andy was held in high esteem by all who served with him and will be greatly missed.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The comment section was filled with people sharing their fond memories of the family man and sending their regards to his partner and children.

They described him as “a real gentleman” and “a hero to the end” with others adding that it has been a pleasure to have known him and worked alongside him.

One penned: “The best Firefighter I know, ability, experience, common sense, and a great guy all in one........they don't make them like Andy anymore.

“An absolute privilege to have him as a colleague and a friend, some great times together on and off the fire ground. Will never be forgotten.

“Thoughts are with his kids and partner at this sad time.”
