NIFL Premiership: Stats reveal how much game time clubs are giving young players

Dungannon Swifts lead the way when it comes to giving young players experience in the Danske Bank Premiership this season.

That's according to stats published by NI football statistician Marshall Gillespie.

Marshall clocked up the minutes played by Northern Ireland born players aged 21 and under in the top flight in 2020/21.

Dungannon lead the way, with their youngsters playing a combined 4,313 minutes of top flight action this season.

That represents 36.3 per cent of the total number of minutes Kris Lindsay's side has played this term.

In second spot is Portadown whose young NI players have featured for 2,862 minutes (28.9%).

The next three spots on the list are filled by Ballymena United (3rd, 3,030, 25.5%), Glentoran (4th, 1,981, 18.1%) and Cliftonville (5th, 1,214, 10.2%).

Meanwhile at the other end of the table Oran Kearney's Coleraine sit bottom.

According to Marshall's stats, the Bannsiders have yet to field a NI-born player aged 21 or under this season.

Crusaders are next, with their youngsters only featuring for five minutes in the Premiership in 2020/21 (0.04%).

Meanwhile, Larne are 10th in the table with 40 minutes of football for their young players.

Champions Linfield are eighth in Marshall's table with a total of 360 minutes this season (0.4%).
