NIFL Premiership round-up: Coleraine hit four past Glenavon at Mourneview

Stephen Lowry bagged a brace as Coleraine climbed to third in the league table with a comfortable win over Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Ben Doherty scored his his third goal of the campaign from the penalty spot before Nedas Macuilaitis completed the win with a debut goal four minutes from time.

Midfielder Lowry opened the scoring with his first of the night before the break when he steered a shot past Johnny Tuffey after some smart link-up play from James McLaughlin.

McLaughlin and Lowry combined for Coleraine’s second two minutes into the second half, the latter cutting inside the area to fire home.

Former Glenavon midfielder Doherty added a third from the penalty spot in the 71st minute after new signing Macuilaitis was fouled inside the area by Andrew Doyle.

And Macuilaitis, a midweek capture from Annagh United made it 4-0 when he showed an impressive turn of pace to fire past Tuffey.

Josh Carson had gone closest to an opener for Coleraine in the 19th minute when he struck the inside of the post with a superb strike.

Five minutes earlier Josh Daniels had threatened an opener for Glenavon, but his close range header was scrambled off the line.

Carrick 0-1 Ballymena Utd

Ten-man Ballymena United beat Carrick Rangers 1-0 at the Loughshore Arena thanks to Jude Winchester’s second goal of the season.

Winchester pounced for the winner on 58 minutes when he capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to force the ball home at the back post.

Carrick midfielder Daniel Kelly went close to a late equaliser but his close range header from a wicked Reece Neale corner was deflected over the United bar.
