Ahead of filming, Nicole Kidman has said that her new movie The Northman has her feeling “pretty terrified”.

Production on the forthcoming film by Robert Eggers – whose previous work includes critically acclaimed horrors The Lighthouse and The Witch – recently resumed in Ireland following a months-long shut down earlier this year due to the pandemic.

Speaking to Collider, Kidman revealed that she will soon be joining the film’s set to shoot her scenes.

When asked about starting work on The Northman, the 53-year-old said: “I’m pretty terrified right now. I sound calm but you shouldn’t see what’s going on inside.”

She continued: “I would love to say that I do know what I’m doing but a lot of times, I make very spontaneous and rather bold decisions with very little caution or thought."

Kidman currently stars opposite Hugh Grant in HBO’s ‘The Undoing’ (Sky Atlantic)

Kidman added: “There’s a lot of abandonment and just going, ‘Okay, I’ll give it a go.’ But if you look at my career, you can see that.”

The film’s star-studded cast also includes Alexander Skarsgård, William Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Anya Taylor-Joy and musician Björk. Skarsgard will portray a 10th-century Nordic prince who seeks revenge after his father is murdered.

Taylor-Joy – who previously worked with Eggers on his 2015 horror The Witch – teased what to expect from the forthcoming movie.

The 24-year-old star of Netflix’s hit series The Queen’s Gambit told Collider: “It’s Robert Eggers! People are going to be cold, you’re never going to be comfortable, but it’s going to be amazing. That’s just the way it is.”

A release date for The Northman is yet to be announced.
