Nicolas Raskin to disappoint Rangers with transfer to France on the cards

Rangers target Nicolas Raskin looks set to disappoint his Ibrox suitors by moving to France with Marseille and Toulouse leading the chase.

The Standard Liege midfielder has been dumped into the reserves at former Celtic manager Ronny Deila's club after refusing to sign a new deal in Belgium.

Rangers were credited with a serious interest in the Belgian Under 21s star both in the summer and when the transfer window reopens next week.

But he appears to have made it clear he wants to play in Ligue 1 and will move to a French club.

Marseille and Toulouse have both made enquiries about signing him now for a cut-price fee now rather than waiting to get him for nothing in the summer.

Nantes and Reims have also shown interest, but he could be persuaded to go to Toulouse because they are now managed by former Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier, who worked with Raskin when he was in charge of Standard Liege two years ago.

Michael Beale has talked up Steven Davis as a future Rangers manager - but believes the veteran midfielder still has a role to play in his Ibrox regime.

The Northern Ireland international has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury in training.

Davis, who will turn 38 on January 1, is set to go under the knife early in the New Year and, afterwards, Beale will give him time to consider his next steps.

The Rangers boss is confident he could continue playing, but also sees a path into management if he wants to call an end to his playing career.

Beale says the club "should have a manager in waiting" on the staff, but he knows Rangers won't be the only ones coveting Davis' services as a coach.
