Nicolas Pepe sends Instagram message after Lyon seal deal that could boost Chelsea and Man Utd

Nicolas Pepe took to social media to congratulate Karl Toko Ekambi after the striker completed a loan move to Lyon.

Ekambi joins the Ligue 1 club from Villarreal until the end of the season, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.

An official statement via the Ligue 1 outfit's official website read: 'This loan deal in the amount of €4m (£3.4m) is accompanied by a purchase option in the amount of €11.5 million to which may be added a maximum of €4 million in incentives as well as a 15% sell-on fee from a possible future transfer (50% if the transfer takes place before 09/15/20)'.

And Pepe, who played with Ekambi during their time at French side Angers, posted a picture of the forward holding a Lyon shirt on his Instagram story.

Ekambi's arrival at the Groupama Stadium could be good news for couple of Premier League clubs in the January transfer window.

Chelsea are thought to be keen on adding a striker to their squad before deadline day, while Manchester United are also on the hunt for reinforcements after Marcus Rashford was ruled out for up to three months with a stress fracture to his back.

Lyon's capture of Ekambi could suggest that they are preparing for the future departure of prized asset Moussa Dembele.

The French striker has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Tottenham and United.

But judging by Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas' recent comments to RMC, Lyon are unlikely to sanction an exit this month.

"We have not changed our minds," he said. "We already made this issue clear in August. Moussa is an excellent player. A player who we need. We are taking explicit measures in our recruitment to not bring someone in who will compete for his position.

"It is not a question of money. Moussa will be with us."

According to FootMercato, Manchester United are ready to make a first offer of €50million plus bonuses for Dembele in the light of Rashford's injury.
