Nicolas Pepe's true transfer value and why he's worth more than Arsenal paid for him

Arsenal made a flying start to the 2019/2020 Premier League season with victories in their first two games against Newcastle United and Burnley.

Despite losing to Liverpool in gameweek three, coupled with draws against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, they went into the October international break just a point behind reigning champions Manchester City.

Fast forward a few months and Gunners have changed manager, with the sacking of Unai Emery after a catastrophic run followed by Mikel Arteta's appointment.

If not for the goals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal's position in the table would have been looking a lot more bleak.

However, the club's leading scorer is not the north London outfit's most valuable player in the Premier League so far this season.

That honour goes to record signing Nicolas Pepe. Despite a slightly slow start to his time at the Emirates Stadium, the Ivory Coast international has started to show his true value, including a goal in the Gunners' last Premier League outing against Manchester United.

The CIES Football Observatory have listed the 166 footballers in the 'big five' leagues that are valued at more than €50million (£42.45million).

At the top are Kylian Mbappe and Raheem Sterling - the only two players valued at over €200m (£169.8m). And coming in at number 28 on the list is Pepe, valued at €93.5m (£79.4m).

With the Gunners having only paid £72m to Rennes for the winger, his value is said to have increased in his time in North London, and he is now said to be worth the same amount as Philippe Coutinho - more than Virgil van Dijk (€92.7m), Paulo Dybala (€91.2m) and Eden Hazard (€90.3m).
