Nicolas Pepe's Instagram message to Yves Bissouma amid Arsenal transfer interest

Nicolas Pepe was in the Arsenal side that crashed out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage.

Gabriel Magalhaes' own goal - on his return to the XI - settled the tie against Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon, leaving the Europa League as the Gunners' only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season.

Speaking after the game, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was understandably frustrated.

"I’m very disappointed because we wanted to continue the competition," he said in his post-match press conference. "We had a dream to again like we did it last year step by step and that dream today, it suffered.

"And as well disappointed with the way we conceded the goal in an area we know we shouldn’t do that and give the lead to the opponent.

"At the same time I cannot fault the effort of the players how they tried throughout the game and tried to go for the goal in the second half the way we did it.

"But it wasn’t enough because we conceded a goal that we shouldn't, and when we created the chances we didn’t hit the target."

Pepe was one of many Gunners players who came in for criticism for his performance against the Saints, but it's safe to say his weekend wasn't completely ruined by events on the south coast.

Later in the day, Brighton and Hove Albion were in action at home to Blackpool where Yves Bissouma - linked with a move to Arsenal - got himself on the scoresheet.

And Pepe was delighted for his close friend.

Taking to Instagram, he sent a cryptic message to Bissouma which didn't include any words but two eyeballs as well as two hush emojis.

Pepe and Bissouma were teammates at Lille until the latter joined the Seagulls, but could the pair soon be reunited?

Well, football.london understands Arsenal are interested in the possibility of signing Bissouma who has been tipped to be Thomas Partey's perfect midfield partner.

However, any move for the Brighton midfielder is likely to be in the summer transfer window.
