Nicolas Pepe's previous comments about the best defenders he has faced in the Premier League appears to have backfired in spectacular fashion.
Since joining the Gunners from Lille in the summer of 2019, the Ivory Coast has struggled to rediscover the form which saw him become the club's record signing at £72m.
The forward was in and out of the team under former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery, and hasn't managed to change his situation following Mikel Arteta's appointment.
This season Pepe has scored just twice in the Premier League and has only found the net once against a top-six club in his time at the Emirates Stadium,scoring in the 2-0 home win against Manchester United last year.
But in February 2020, Pepe could not name one defender that he had struggled against during his debut season in English football.
Answering questions in a quickfire Q&A session with teammate Matteo Guendouzi for the official club YouTube channel, Pepe is asked "Who's the toughest defender you've played against?"
Pepe then replies: "Honestly, nobody."
His answer is somewhat surprising given Pepe has faced an array of excellent centre-backs and full-backs in the top flight, including Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, and Toby Alderweireld.
And following a below-par substitute appearance in the goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Thursday night, those comments have been revisited by some Arsenal fans.
Judging by the reaction on Reddit, Pepe may be regretting his two-word answer.
